I went through every single link on the first page, and I just fell in love with the user interface. Ever since then, I’ve been learning how to use all its features. Every time I tried something new, I got such great positive feedback from my clients.
- Sandra Mo

Sandra Mo, founder of Lashes By SxMo, started her career at just 15 years old with nothing more than a Walmart lash kit and a dream.

Despite slaying her initial set, she quickly realized that the DIY kit wasn’t cutting it when her natural lashes started falling out. This inspired her to learn how to do safe, effective lash extensions. So, in true entrepreneurial fashion, she locked in and started learning everything she could about lash extensions, getting certified in early 2020.

Now, nearly five years later, Sandra is a seasoned lash specialist and a third-year university student pursuing a degree in Creative Industries at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Specializing in textured and anime-inspired lash styles, Sandra has carved out a unique niche in the uber-competitive beauty industry. Her designs are more than just extensions; they’re personalized works of art that enhance her clients’ natural beauty. But what truly sets Sandra apart is her incredible hustle.

Why YouCanBookMe: Sandra’s story

The problem, solution, & outcome

  • The Problem: Running a multi-location lash biz while being a full-time university student.
  • The Solution: Enter YouCanBookMe—Sandra’s scheduling superhero.
  • The Outcome: 767+ bookings, saved hours, and clients who are obsessed with her scheduling process!

The problem

Running a business is hard. Being in university is hard. Doing both at the same time? Nearly impossible—but not for Sandra Mo.

As a full-time student, balancing assignments, exams, and personal commitments with the demands of her business often felt like walking a tightrope. She had to master time management skills well beyond her years, constantly switching between academic deadlines and client appointments.

When she first started out, Sandra was just using a simple Google Form to stay organized. As her business grew, though, she quickly realized that this strategy wasn’t cutting it.

Things became even trickier when Sandra began offering services in two locations—Markham and downtown Toronto. Managing her bookings manually between both cities turned into a logistical nightmare, and she knew she needed a smarter solution.

The solution

Enter: YouCanBookMe.

After a bit of Googling, she stumbled upon YouCanBookMe, and it was love at first click!

I went through every single link on the first page, and I just fell in love with the user interface,” Sandra explains. “Ever since then, I’ve been learning how to use all its features. Every time I tried something new, I got such great positive feedback from my clients.

One of YouCanBookMe’s standout features for Sandra was the multi-location scheduling tool, which made managing her Markham and Toronto appointments a breeze.

The outcome

Since adopting YouCanBookMe, Sandra has booked over 767 appointments and received countless compliments on her polished booking system. The automation saves her hours every week, freeing up time for school, personal projects, and even a little self-care.

A few months ago, I set up the team feature to make it two different locations for appointments, and the amount of personal messages I got from clients was overwhelmingly positive.

✨ Bonus ✨ Learn from the pros—Sandra’s top business advice

Sandra’s story is packed with wisdom from her experience as a young woman, small business owner, and student. Here are three lessons she swears by to grow your business and keep learning along the way:

1. Have a passion and solve a problem

Turning a personal challenge into a business idea can be the key to success. Sandra discovered her love for lashes after a DIY attempt went wrong, leading her to research and master the art of lash extensions.

I got a lash extension kit from Walmart and I put them on myself... but it ended up actually taking off a lot of my natural eyelashes. So in a week's time, I had to go back and tell everybody, like, wait, guys, trust me, this is not the right way to do it."

- Sandra Mo

Her determination to solve that problem and do it the right way set the foundation for her business, and for her success.

2. Lean into your community

The people around you can be your biggest source of support and inspiration. Sandra’s family helped her refine her skills and understand entrepreneurship—she even practiced lashing on her brother when she was just starting out!

A lot of my family members were creative as well. My parents owned their own business, so I got to help out from a young age and learn about the world of business behind the scenes."

- Sandra Mo

From learning from her parents’ garment business to connecting with other lash artists online, Sandra proves that community is a key part of growth.

3. Always be open to learning

Adapting to new opportunities and challenges keeps your business moving forward. Sandra embraced new ideas at her university marketplace, pivoting her service-based business into selling handmade false lashes.

It was tricky because I wasn’t offering lash extensions at my university marketplace. So, I pivoted and made handmade false extensions to sell... It was a great stepping stone for me to feel more comfortable taking new opportunities."

- Sandra Mo

Her open-minded approach ensures she’s always growing, no matter the circumstance!
