I tweak my booking pages once a year. It's literally set it, forget it, which is what I want. I don't want a product that I have to keep going back to and looking at."
- Shawn Miller, Founder of Young, Hip & Married

Shawn Miller trained as a life coach and started his career doing relationship coaching for young couples. When he and his wife began going to wedding shows to find clients, something unexpected happened: couples started asking if Shawn could marry them, too. He looked into officiating, saw how little choice couples were given over their own ceremonies, and decided to change that.

Young, Hip & Married launched in 2010 with a clear philosophy: couples should get to define what their wedding means to them, not be handed someone else's script.

We want to talk a lot more about our couples and a lot less at them."

Shawn's approach is simple: it's your wedding, so it should actually sound like you. Whether that means getting married on a Vancouver rooftop, in a helicopter, or on a stand-up paddleboard.

That approach has built a business that now handles close to a thousand weddings a year across nine locations, with a team of 35 officiants. Behind all of it, Shawn needed a scheduling system that could keep up without getting in the way, and that's where YouCanBookMe’s scheduling software for professional services came in.

Why YouCanBookMe: Shawn's story

YouCanBookMe Kate Reynier chats with customer of the week Shawn Miller

The challenge

With six to eight client meetings a week, Shawn needed a scheduling system that could handle high volume without adding to his workload or stripping away the personal touch his business is built on.

Running a wedding company is not a nine-to-five operation. Shawn personally performs close to 200 weddings a year on top of running the business, which means his calendar is the central nervous system of everything he does.

Every new couple needs an initial consultation before anything is agreed. During the booking season alone—January through March, when couples are locking in their vendors for the year—Shawn is having six to eight meetings a week. Some couples will meet with him once for twenty minutes. Others will come back three or four times before the wedding day. All of them need easy, frictionless access to his diary.

The scheduling tool he was using before wasn't cutting it.

It was limited in scope. It just didn't do what I wanted."

The other challenge was capacity. With that many meetings happening across three seasons, he needed something that handled the logistics automatically so he could save his energy for the conversations that actually mattered.

The solution

Shawn set up multiple appointment types for different stages of the client relationship and uses Zapier to pull each couple's details into a personalized draft email, ready for him to review and send before they've even had their first meeting.

When Shawn found YouCanBookMe, the fit was immediate.

When I found it, it just did everything I wanted it to do."

He set up distinct appointment types to cover every stage of his process: new client consultations, vendor meetings, wedding meetings, and post-wedding chats. Couples get a link and can book whichever type of meeting they need, whenever they need it. There's no cap on the number of meetings they can have.

The last thing I want is if they want to meet with me and I say sorry, you already used up your meetings. Some people need a little more hand-holding, and some people need none at all."

Alongside the booking pages, Shawn built a Zapier workflow that fires every time a new meeting is booked. It pulls the couple's wedding date from his Airtable CRM, creates a personalized draft email in his inbox, and waits for him to review and send. The automated confirmation email from YouCanBookMe goes to the couple immediately; the personalized one follows shortly after.

They get the automated one from YouCanBookMe, but then I send them a personalized one on our email thread. It's just another point of contact. Hey, there's a real person behind this."

The outcome

Five years in, YouCanBookMe runs quietly in the background of a business doing nearly a thousand weddings a year; handling bookings, syncing calendars, firing reminders, and freeing Shawn up to focus on the work he loves.

The best endorsement Shawn can give YouCanBookMe is also the simplest: he barely thinks about it.

I love that I don't have to touch it. That's my favorite thing about it."

His calendar is, in his words, the bible of the business. Everything runs out of it. When he had to leave unexpectedly to take his son to a clinic, he didn't dig through his inbox to find a client's contact details. He opened his calendar, saw the phone number right there, and sent a quick text.

It's all there. I'm not going through emails wondering what's on today. Having all that information in the calendar is extremely helpful."

For a company that has built its reputation on high-touch, human-centered service, YouCanBookMe does something that matters beyond logistics: it handles the operational side quietly enough that the personal side can still shine through.

Everything is becoming high-tech. We try really hard to keep elements of our business that are high-touch. Whether that's a video email, a Zoom call, or picking up the actual phone. Any area where we can reach out and touch our client and not use technology, for us, that's a real win."

The scheduling tool is part of what makes that possible. It takes care of the mechanics so Shawn and his team can take care of the people.

Deep dive into Shawn's booking page

Young, Hip & Marrieds YouCanBookMes wedding services booking page

Shawn’s booking page

Shawn's booking page sets the tone before a couple has even picked a time slot. His profile picture is a bitmoji of himself framed in a dashed heart, which is a small but telling detail; warm, playful, and completely on brand for a company that takes the stuffiness out of wedding ceremonies.

The page is built entirely around appointment types, and each one has been written with genuine care. The initial consultation description doesn't just explain what the meeting is for—it tells couples it's a chance for Shawn to hear how they fell in love, why they want to get married, and which one of them they think will cry first at the ceremony. It's exactly the kind of copy that makes someone feel like they're already in safe hands.

After the wedding, there's a dedicated post-wedding call—a short fifteen-minute Zoom to reflect on the experience and let Shawn hear directly from them about the moments they loved most.

Vendors and business contacts have their own slot too, keeping those conversations completely separate from the couple-facing side of the diary.

The whole page works as a quiet reflection of how the business operates: every interaction has a purpose, every meeting type has been thought through, and nothing feels generic.

✨ Bonus ✨ Learn from the pros—Shawn's top business advice

Shawn has been running Young, Hip & Married for sixteen years, has four kids, and took his family on a five-month working sabbatical across seventeen countries. If he could go back and tell his younger self one thing, it wouldn't be about marketing or pricing or growth strategy.

Learn how to be a leader. Learn what that means for you. That would have served me really well."

He spent years making concessions for team members, prioritizing what they wanted over the direction he knew the business needed to go. It cost him momentum, and at times, his own enthusiasm for the work he'd built.

A business without a leader is doomed. Being a good leader doesn't necessarily mean making everyone happy. Those are two different things."

It's a lesson that's easier to understand in hindsight, he admits. But for anyone building a team around a service they care deeply about, it's worth taking seriously early.

Set it, forget it, and get back to the work you love

Young, Hip & Married grew by doing exceptional work and making it genuinely easy for people to get in touch. That second part is where YouCanBookMe comes in.

In a business built on intimate, personal moments, having a scheduling system that just works—quietly, reliably, without constant attention—gives Shawn the freedom to stay present for the parts that matter most.

Nearly a thousand weddings a year. Thirty-five officiants across nine locations. Couples getting married on mountaintops, in helicopters, and on stand-up paddleboards. And underneath all of it, a booking link that does exactly what it's supposed to do.
